Promote More than One Affiliate Program - Lesson Learned

Ever hear the phrase “don’t put all your eggs in one basket?” Well, I should have listened to that because that’s exactly what I did… and now my affiliate income has completely dried up. For about two weeks now, I noticed that I am no longer making money at Commission Junction.

And the embarrassing thing? I didn’t even notice until I tried to put a button ad for my favorite affiliate program on this blog, and the program wasn’t on the system anymore. Hmm… I wasn’t making that much - anywhere from $40-$80 per month. But it was a nice self esteem boost. Even as I learned how to market, I could sell something.

But that’s no longer the case. Lesson learned. I’ll sit and think about other little lessons I’ve learned from this so I can apply it to my marketing.

  1. Good point. Sometimes too much focus can be a bad thing. But kudos for what you were making! I haven’t consistently cracked the code for CJ vendors yet.

  2. Hi Art,

Ya, it was a lead based affiliate program and a lot of writers were signing up for it. I felt like I had it made!

That’s the only CJ vendor I’ve cracked the code for.

Thanks for the Kudos. :) I’m going to apply what I’ve learned from the experience to other programs.

  3. If it was a certain auction site- they’ve moved the affiliate program in house. If it’s something else, you may want to look up the company’s website- they may have moved theirs in house as well, or changed brokers.

  4. Hey wordvixen - it was actually Helium. I use the site and make money there so it was a natural one for me to promote! Strangely, I was on CJ today and the “certain auction site” is still listed in the system.
