I was out of town when Sharon Hurley-Hall’s Blogging Start Group began. The question she posed was - how did you begin your blogging journey?
I started in early 2005. I had just moved to Massachusetts from Germany and had the idea that I wanted to take my writing online. Prior to that, I had been querying magazines and newspapers with article ideas. I was getting somewhere, but not as quickly as I would have liked. My goal was more to share my knowledge of Herbal Medicine with people and encourage them to live healthier lives.
So, Living Naturally, a blog I decided to host on Blogger, was born. I didn’t know what to expect at first, but I quickly found that the blog style of writing resonated with me. Before long I was trying to juggle 10+ blogs.
Now, I am trying to decide on the fate of the Living Naturally blog. I would like to move the best of my content to a new blog platform. I’ve given up on using places like Blogger and Wordpress.com for my blogs. I seem to have outgrown it.
Looking back, I’ve gained a lot more from blogging than I thought I would. At first, I just wanted to share information with people and maybe make a few dollars here and there. I still have that goal but I’ve gained a lot more than just a few extra dollars. The community of online friends I’ve made has been a huge blessing.

Thanks for sharing, Katherine. I started blogging that same year and I have learned such a lot. I think you do outgrow the free sites eventually, though some very successful bloggers are still using them.
