Can I Learn a Success Lesson from Baseball?
I think I just might! In fact, I bet baseball is filled with little lessons and comparisons that can help me get some perspective. But one thing I learned this week is really standing out.
Two words. Manny Ramirez. On the surface, he’s just “Manny being Manny”. But on the field, he’s five home runs from 500. He’s consistent and dominant. And most importantly, he loves the game.
I found this quote on MannyRamirez.com:
Manny’s first few days in New York were very difficult. He had no friends and didn’t know where the baseball fields were.
He woke up early to practice. He practiced after school and after dinner. In other words, he loved the game and wanted to succeed.
So that leads me to the following questions:
- Do I love what I do?
- Will I work hard and practice my craft?
- Am I determined enough and passionate enough to make this work?
About a week ago, I would have faltered at that last question. But now I sit here writing this post with the complete confidence that finally the pieces are starting to fit and make sense.
