Business Plans and Training to Run a Marathon - They’re Related!
It’s Saturday and I am currently in Vienna. Tomorrow is the marathon - I’ll be running and hopefully crossing my second-ever marathon finish line.
After the first, I was in pain but couldn’t wait to do another one. I actually trained using a program for that one.
The training for this one was a little more haphazard. I had an injury, I ignored my training occasionally, and in between all that I actually ran. My longest training distance was 18 miles and I walked a lot of it because I got caught in a downpour and it simply hurt.
Even though I may do fine tomorrow, I am doubting my abilities because I didn’t train that well. In the business world, it would be like trying to run a business without a plan.
Will it be luck if I finish? No, because I did train a little bit, just not to the level that I am happy with. Next time, it will be different. Next time, my training will be better.
I am still in the beginning stages of my business. If nothing else, this experience is inspiring me to write the most detailed business plan I’ve ever written. Then we’ll see how fast I can reach my goals!
